Rage Updates[ 1 Comment ] 6:13 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Community NewsThere's not much new info in the IGN: Rage Preview, but you can play a little 'catch-up" on topics like EA publishing the new id Software property, some basics of the gameplay and the fact that you can't get id to answer the "when will it be released?" question. Silly Rabbits! You can check out the Rage: Fame and Glory video, now in HD as opposed to the off-screen versions that have been available to date. Go fast, make big booms!
Techno OverDose[ Comment ] 6:06 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Community News - Quake II NewsThe upcoming free Quake 2 powered stand-alone game, OverDose, is showing off some of it's technology to tempt players and new team members. The team is still looking for help to get the game done and out the door with the quality they're aiming at, and the new eye candy should get some great reactions. You can hit the OverDose site for a couple new shots showing off terrain blending on terrain models and support for curves and patches while the new video (the first of two) shows off some of the real time effects the team has been able to get from the Quake 2 engine. It's quite impressive, so check it all out and get ready for the next video that's coming soon!
Morning Gas[ Comment ] 6:00 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Community NewsYesterday was all about getting my game rig loaded back up with my games and getting them tweaked just the way I like them. I didn't get as far as I thought and all of the Quakes and Wolfenstein stuff is still not in yet. Of course to tweak the configs, I have to play the games and play them I did! I also noticed the motion bothered me some, as it does anytime I go without some FPS action for more than five days. I'm over it now though and ready to roll! I'll have the rest of my games in today and the last will be Quake 1 because I have to build my directory from scratch again. It's an involved task with all of the new engine mods and hi-res textures, so I'm saving that little beauty for last.
Yesterdays quote from "In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale" and this one is a sore spot for me since I bought the DVD when it was new and paid over 20 bucks for it only to find I wouldn't have bought it even if it was in the bargain bin for five bucks. But getting back to the quote, the points for being the fastest went to Tex Arcana for First, Terje_Dragsund in Second and pulling in the last point of the day with Third was KniCKle. GG all!
Our super secret movie theme for the week is "F*****y_F*r**s". (The underscores are there to show the space between words, it's NOT actually part of the theme.)
Quake Expo 2008: Day 5[ Comment ] 6:24 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Community NewsSince I got my game rig back last night, I'm frantic about getting it back up to snuff and loaded up with all my games so I can try, and take part in all of the kool stuff coming out of the Quake Expo 2008 online event. This event always reminds me of a street fair with all the little booths lined up, waiting to show you some of the sweetest goodies you've ever seen. It's not the crap you see in Walmart, it's all made with love and you'll see the incredible care in the little touches. Quake Expo is just like that, except you don't get tired from walking up and down the street, you just do the "clickity, click" thing and you're in heaven!
Zero Barrier Release![ 1 Comment ] 6:05 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Quake IV NewsI check ModDBZero Barrier for release every single day and I have no idea how I missed this one the other day, so let's take proper care of it now. The Quake 4 multiplayer mod Zero Barrier has their first release ready for all to get a taste. The mod basics are a 1 VS All scenario where the single "Runner" must get past the "Non Runners" to the end area and hold it for a few seconds to be victorious. Then it starts all over with a new "Runner" being randomly selected. That sounds like a blast to me and it should offer some varied play beyond the simple run like mad and blast whatever you see. Give it a whack with the Zero Barrier Alpha 1.01!
Knee Crushing Fun[ Comment ] 5:58 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Quake IV NewsThe latest Quake 4 Dm level to be released has a fitting title. Named for the knee crushing drops it holds, you can now get your Dm needs taken care of with a couple rounds in Kortizone by *DeeP*.
Kortizone is a fast-paced,4 level kill-box map. From the basement, load up on rockets and shards, to the rafters. Then, descend down to any of the three walkways below you to annihilate your opponents. Great cover, speed and strategic potential! From narrow passageways and open rail areas to a massive generator supplying a quad damage.
Morning Gas[ Comment ] 5:57 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Community NewsIt's baaack! My game rig now sits proudly back in it's spot and today I'll be finishing the task of tweaking and loading it up for my games. That's right baby, I'm back in the saddle again. I wonder just how bad my "game" has gotten in the past few weeks without a proper gaming platform. Hell I'd bet even Jube could get a frag on me today. If you see me on the servers today, take full advantage and nail my carcass to the wall, 'cause once I get my fell and aim back, you're all going down! That's right, I just challenged the world. Fatal1ty, Zero4...all you monkeys are gonna go down as quick as a cold beer on a hot day. My I'm feeling brave today aren't I?
Yesterdays quote from "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones" didn't cause anyone to fall from the "curse of the sequel" but once again, nobody broke the secret theme, but not for lack of trying. First in for three was Tex Arcana with Hexen taking Second and Matrix101 battling his way into Third. GG all!
Our super secret movie theme for the week is "F*****y_F*r***". (The underscores are there to show the space between words, it's NOT actually part of the theme.)
Movie Quote:"In my world, the king's army is expected to protect the kingdom, not just the castle."Name that flick!

Quake Expo 2008 Update![ Comment ] 9:46 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Community NewsThe fabulously fragtastic online event, Quake Expo 2008 is well on the way to a successful year! There are new booths still being opened, which means more Quake goodness for us players, and the already "up and running" booths are a constant source of kool Quake treats. With so many projects on the go, it might be a little daunting to keep up to date on what's going down, so they've added a nice little Quake Expo Booth Update feature to the site so you can quickly see who has the freshest stuff available.
In today's update we have some news on the progress of the Realms of Quake, a Quake MMORPG as well as the first Quake Speedmapping pack with a "Dreamscape" theme. This one offers players four new single player Quake maps from various talented designers! And for those of a more competitive nature the Alien Arena sponsored "Aliens For Animals Alien Arena 1v1 Tourney" is a great way to win some sweet swag and help out our furry friends, and all with a satisfying fragfest! Don’t miss a minute of this event gang, it doesn’t happen every year and you’ll find projects and events for three of the best games ever to hit the Earth; Quake 1, Quake 2 and Quake 3!
OverDose Updates![ Comment ] 6:11 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Community News - Quake II NewsThe Quake 2 powered stand-alone game in the works known as OverDose is coming along nicely, but things could be a little better. Not for quality, but quantity. The current team is looking for more help to get their ambitious project done, and done right, so they need some new team members with skills in level creation, art, modeling, sound and coding! With recent updates for the newly voted on sniper scope and some new foliage, this project is moving along, but as with many large scale projects, there's always room for more hands to help out. If you have any of the skills the team is looking for, I encourage you to head to the OverDose page and contact them accordingly.
Morning Gas[ Comment ] 5:58 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Community NewsI called my buddy Marauder last night and he confirmed that tonight is the night I get my game rig back! The poor bastard will have to drive three hours after he closes the shop at 6 PM, makes sure the machine works fine here, and then drive back for another three hours. I think that's a full day! I can't wait though and I keep looking over at the spot my game rig normally takes, and today I'm smiling. Soon my love, soon. My precious!
yesterdays quote from "Eragon" brought in a whack of correct entries, and some took a shot at our secret theme, but it's still unsolved. The points for the quote went out in quick fashion to Tex Arcana in First, KniCKle for sliding in Second and J_Rich takes Third. GG all!
Our super secret movie theme for the week is "F*****y_F*****". (The underscores are there to show the space between words, it's NOT actually part of the theme.)

QUAKE Live CTF Finals Video[ Comment ] 6:00 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Quake LiveThe wait is over for the QuakeCon 2008 QUAKE Live CTF Finals & Awards Video from QuakeUnity! So far the videos have been as sweet as Quad and packed with plenty of action, so this latest addition should be just as tasty. The new video shows off action on Q3CTF3 "The Stronghold" and Q3CTF2 "Troubled Waters" along with film of the award ceremony, so it’s an all-in-one wrap-up. You can download or just stream the video, so there’s no reason to not get to see this one!
Morning Gas[ Comment ] 6:00 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Community NewsCould this be the day before the day I get my game rig back? I hope so! It was a pretty boring and frustrating weekend not being able to try some of the new stuff that's come out, especially with Quake Expo 2008 in high gear. But I won't whine, bitch or rant. Nope, not me. I may have a tantrum by noon, but you all won't have to see that so it's all good. At least our new theme is doing well and we had plenty of folks nail our movie quote yesterday. The quote was from "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" and the points went out to Tex Arcana for First, Crimson Pig in Second and cruising into Third with dwarfs to spare was Hexen. GG all!
Our super secret movie theme for the week is "F******_F*****". (The underscores are there to show the space between words, it's NOT actually part of the theme.)

Constructing the Qconstruct[ Comment ] 6:29 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Quake III Arena NewsUsing the Lua embeddable scripting language, Zak is building his qconstruct mod for Quake 3, which should make it more accessible for people to work with. The mod sites at about 60% complete and with the Lua language, users will be able to change things on the fly without a server reboot or code compile stage. I'll keep you all posted as this one progresses since there is currently no site for the mod.
Morning Gas[ Comment ] 5:55 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Community NewsNobody sent in a theme idea for this week, so it's all me this time around. Now whether that's a good thing, or a bad thing will remain to be seen for a few days I guess. Now that being said, let's get going with a fresh round of our "Name That Flick" feature. Each day I give a movie quote and the three quickest to send in the correct movie title get points. There's also a secret theme that the quotes will help you solve, as well as the letters I expose in the theme and the first to crack it gets three bonus points. Sounds easy right? OK, let's get to it. GL, HF!
Our super secret movie theme for the week is "*******_******". (The underscores are there to show the space between words, it's NOT actually part of the theme.)

Quake Expo - Day 2[ Comment ] 5:51 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Community NewsIt's Day 2 of the online Quake creative community event lovingly known as Quake Expo! There's already been some action in the participant’s booths, and the goodies vary from tutorials and mods to mapping and photoshopping events! Speaking of events, don't miss out on the Quake Franchise Photoshop Contest from Global Gamers , or the Quake 2 Cafe Q2 Mapping Contest! If you don't have any creative skills and just like to shoot anything that moves, then the Alien Arena - Aliens For Animals Cup should suit you. It’s a limited 1v1 tourney where you donate 10 bucks to our fury friends which is then matched by the AA team. You’ll then get to battle for some seriously kool swag, like the top prize of a Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX video card! Keep your browser pointed at Quake Expo for breaking events, updates and more. But if you want to get right into it, join us all in the Quake Expo IRC chat and say thanks to the people making all this kool stuff happen.
QUAKE Live CTF Videos[ 1 Comment ] 5:27 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Quake LiveThe first batch of videos from the Quake Live CTF tournament at QuakeCon 2008 are now up over at QuakeUnity! The first set is the top of the winner's bracket matches with three maps played by teams billymaysdaze (cloud9) and inninitforthe$. The finals are still coming, but this is definately something sweet to chew on in the meantime!
Morning Gas[ Comment ] 5:01 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Community NewsIt was a strange week for the movie quotes, and I don't know if it was gimpod's theme and quotes that did it or it's just that goofy time of year when people are on vacation. Either way, a few of our heavy hitters were missing from the list this time and there was an awful lot of stumpage going on with the casual players. As a small example, Third place overall was won with the three points given for solving the theme! But before I get ahead of myself I guess we'd better take care of handing out the points for the final quote of the week, and it was indeed a slice from the crowd favourite, "Saving Private Ryan". First in for three was Tex Arcana with Bryant nailing Second and KniCKle claiming Third, and the last point of the round. GG all! Now here are the top three point scoring maniacs for the week. I'd like to thank gimpod for his submission of the theme and quotes, and remember gang, if you get a great theme idea, drop me a line!
Tex Arcana: 18 First!
KniCKle: 7 Second!
MaxxJag: 3 third!
