They say me if i want dmc i have to buy HF 2 GOLD or HL 2 SILVER PACK!!!! What the f**k is this s**t???? I've tried reinstalling the steaminstall_dmc.exe file (downloaded from another place) but it doesnt works.

Hi Pen, there are guys here that know a lot more than I but I've had similar problems so I'll see if I can help. 1st off, you shouldn't have had to buy a new copy of HL for a new cd key, your old logon should have enabled you to play without having to buy a new account regardless of ISP change --your steam account doesn't "expire" when you change ISP's (though maybe you meant the password recovery went to your old email address)?

Do you have your old account info available? specifically your old user id/password. In the steam menu, go to "settings" and log on as different user. Then plug in your old user ID & Password and let us know what happens.

It's weird that they wouldn't let you play DMC even with a new CD key. Are you sure you've done everything right? Anyway I find it a lame idea on the part of Valve, to include its back catalog with the gold/silver edition. I've yet to see someone who'd be willing to buy an HL2 Gold Pack and *not* own the original Half-Life. It would have been enough to give away CS:CZ, not everyone has that. And I can't believe they would take away DMC from those who bought HL1 recently. That would be a really evil marketing strategy.

Anyway, you've changed your ISP but you've still got the same computer, not so? Don't you have automatic logon?

if you remember your original username email, and pw, you should be able to reinstall steam w/ dmc on any computer. an existing account is an existing account. if you are doing a clean reinstall, just use your original steam info and it will install the games you choose from the games menu. that email & pw you originally used to set up steam is tied in with your original cd key.
btw... i've never heard of an account expiring. isp or no isp, you dl the steaminstaller.exe and log in, dl dmc on any computer with your existing account.

With "expired account" i wanted to mean i changed of isp and if i wanna try to solve the problem (maybe username is wrong or pw is wrong ...) they will send me that info to that email address that i can't use because i changed of isp, so i can't solve the problem. Anyway, if I've bought a new copy, it shud let me have dmc, or what the hell. This is disgusting

Steam does not automatically read CD keys from registry anymore so after install of a new account you will not have any games until you input the cd key.
Launch Steam then click on Browse Games and when the next window comes up there is a button at the bottom that says Register a product I already own...

Click on that and input the cd key from your new copy then all these games should be available:

Half-Life
Counter-Strike
Day of Defeat
Team Fortress Classic
Deathmatch Classic
Opposing Force
Ricochet

hi,
try to change your register key to your old one:

Quote:
Now u need to clear your registry.

EDIT by Rage : Incorrectly editing your registry may severly damage your system. At the very least make sure you back it up before you proceed
Click Start, Run, Regedit (enter)
Then u find this path.

hkey_kurrent_user \software\half-life or
hkey_local_machine\software\vale or

This path could have different name on your computer, it depend on what version of Valve(steam and half life), u have installed and your Opperatin System.

You find the registry key in there somewhere, or you could check your firewall, that was the problem for me, when i could not connect, i have Norton Professional firewall 2004, just edit that, and run settings on the firewall, and go to change the settings in it, when you changed it to allowed connection. click on Personal firewall, and settings for it. then click on Programs, and find: hlds.exe activate that file, and steam.exe, check theese two files if they have internet connection, if not available the connection for them and then it should be able to play

I did what AZ says, i entered the cd key of this new copy i've bought and it says "The cd key you've entered has already been registered to an existing Steam account, and is therefore invalid. Your subscription to Half-Life Platinum Pack has not been completed" Question Question Question I'm gonna try what KB says. This is LAME.

This is how it is. You do not need to install HL at all. No new copies of HL or keys required. Just load Steam by itself and enter your email and password linked to your Steam account, all the games you own show up automatically. Steam knows what you have by who you are +password. Anyone getting games through Steam prior to HL2's release get the platinum pack for free which is all these games>>>
-Counter Strike
-Team Fortress Classic
-Day Of Defeat
-Half Life (Deathmatch)
-Deathmatch Classic (DMC)
-opposing Force
-Richochet
-Code Name Gordon

This is how Steam plans to charge people for all their games in the future. So people installing Steam now will be paying for all the games above that we already attained for free. Shocked

damn pen, thats bad luck, i hope you get past this soon.

You may be able to check if your old ISP hasn't physically deleted your email account by going to www.mail2web.com and entering your email address and password. If that works then you can request your old Steam password. its a long shot but might be possible.
