al though dmc, for all intents and purposes, is supposed to be a version of qw, i don't think putting a rail-gun type weapon would be a bad idea.
including a gun that might stand a chance of reducing the dominance of the Missile launcher(dmc name, rl in qw) wouldn't be a bad thing? right?
just want to know other pps' opinion.
btw don't take this, and that map conversion im doing, as meaning im some q3 fanboy. |

I agree with dirk. If someone put a railgun in, the best place for it would be in a basic dmc sub-mod of it's own.
I would say that Quake 3 probably more than any other on-line game got the balance of play absolutely spot on. But in the end, quake is quake... the fact it's unbalanced is just one more reason it's such a characterful game
Also, i can't use railguns for shit

ok. i'm a little unclear on what you'd like to accomplish here....
are you satisfied w/ a form of shotgun instagib style weapon? or are you looking for something with weapon.mdl, v_weapon.mdl, etc that has it's own ammo and separate game data (like the q2 uranium slug railgun)?
that's a pretty serious undertaking there..... you'll have to define the weapon stats, models, ammo stats, models, etc...rewrite .dll's, take the new data and put them in the maps via stripper. it might be kind of fun to test something like that out, but i believe the novelty would wear off rather quickly. where does this end? chainguns, hyperblasters, BFG's? you know doing a dmc style mod for hl that was more q2 or q3arena based sounds fun... but for the sake of purity, maybe should be done as a separate mod. that's MHO, yours may (and probably does) differ. |

If HL2 DMC was to surface I would scream for such a weapon to be included
..but agree (as said before) if it is to remian a true recreation of QW then no it wouldn't be there.. although is there any harm in the HLDMC community tweaking the rules of play, like any sport?
I still say open the field up and develop HLDMC (I or II) as a 'rounded DM experinece' with greater options, rather than just rocket arena and you will see a bigger audience, but thats me
Although I would still want a rocket only game myself from time to time..
This is another great debate eh |

| i would hate such a weapon to be included in DMC 2, or in regular DMC. It would work well as a mod for DMC, it would be fun and might even work well (proved with quake 3), but it would take away what DMC is to me. And besides if you wanted railgun implemented into a balanced gameplay style along with shafts and rocket launchers, go play Quake 3. This game has all of these elements put to brilliantly balanced effect. Go download cpma (challenge pro mode) which is the pro version of quake 3, with all the same movement as quake. I played it for quite a while. And if i wanted railguns in my game id still be playing it now. |

My 2 cents -- I personnaly prefer the option of selecting a powerful shortrange hitscan weapon; specifically the double-shotty in Doom 2. This was my weapon of choice after forever chasing down the RL in doom and getting "schooled" by guys with the double-shotty. After I "figured it out" and practiced with it, I developed (what we called in the Corps) "muscle memory" -- 100% twitch innstinct without thought. Add in the prediction skills required to be competitive with a RL in Quake and I'd have my perfect blend. Gents, there's no "right" or "wrong" to gameplay, it's highly subjective. My "ideal" game would be QW/DMC with everything as it is with the double shotty in QW/DMC replaced with the Doom 2 equivalent. |

that's a good point. the double shotty in dmc/qw however does do a hell of a lot of damage, the only drawback being you have to be up in someone's face, showing off your minty-fresh breath in order to deal it out. 3 double shotty rounds will take down any 100 health low armored opponent provided you hit them close up. the double shotty is a great go-to weapon to finish someone off close range, ie: two rckets while you're running at them, then when you close in, switch to the double to finish the job and avoid rocket splash damage at close range. on servers where the quad damage is still enabled, it's good aim practice because you can usually take just about anyone down with a few shots from across a small room. |

railgun wouldnt work in dmc
a lot of q3 levels are very big, rail gun can work in pretty much all of them well, in dmc we dont have any levels close to the size of some q3 levels so i dont think it would work well |

| i can agree with that (to a certain extent) but they aren't really that far off. cpma has the railgun and that's really no different than dmc. ever play aerowalk on cpma? it rocks your nuts! |
