Well, Since everyone agreed on the ruleset I think it's time to start map pool discussion.

So everyone discuss the advantages and disadvantages of a large map pool and a small pool. And why you think ?

Lets first begin by trying to decide on a number of maps in the pool for each type of mode of gameplay.

1on1 - how many ?
2on2 - how many ?
4on4 - how many ? note: 4on4 also refers to 3on3 in discussion.

Lets try to keep the discusion to the amount of maps in the pool for each mode please. After this is determined we will discuss the actual maps to be played in a different thread to be sure and not get things to sloppy.

OK lets begin ! (i'll comment later)

i thought to myself, how many maps are used regulary for duelin in europe (i dont no about the usa) and 7 came up without needing to think.

qw has been going a long time.dmc is still at the stage where everybody is playing / experimenting with a much wider range of maps.i think less than 7,minimum would be stifling.i dont see any disadvantage to this.the pool could even be bigger if a different map elimination method was devised.

so ,i would lean towards
1on1..7/9maps
2on2..7/9maps

and 4on4,,your basically talking clanwars so 5/7 maps.

the only advantage i see to a small mappool is that players will perfect how to control them sooner.

dirk
if the pool is small ,players are going to be asking for new maps to be added ,constantly Sad..........Smile

1n1 mappool = 9 up to 12 maps to choose
2n2 mappool = 5 maps
3n3 /4n4 = 3 maps

the bigger ur team is, the harder is it to specificate the special teamplay on the played map! if there are just 3 maps, all teams have to concentrate/prepare on the same circumstances... so in the end the team with the best TEAMWORK- CONTROLTACTIC will will ! Its a lot of training and work to do, to work out a teamconfig ..mostly every map needs a special config file including the speech bindings for special areas ...and so on..and so on... so i think the possibility of real thrilling 3n3 or 4n4 teammatches is only given with a short mappool!

my 2 (euro)cents

Dirkster says :

1on1 : 7 to 9maps
2on2 : 7 to 9maps
4on4 : 5 to 7 maps.

UncleS says :

1on1 : 9 to 12 maps
2on2 : 5 maps
4on4 : 3 maps

TrenD says :

1on1 : 5 maps
2on2 : 5 maps
4on4 : 3 maps

I basicly feel the same way as UncleS about the map pool (good explanation btw)

It's hard to coordinate 3 or 4 players to practice together and be able to comfortably play 3 maps as a team. Most of us can not spend 6 hours a day practicing, thast crazy. Adding more maps to practice on and be comfortable with could be disasterous. The game should not get sloppy.

1on1 / 2on2 is different.

It's easy for a player to load a lan game and run through maps and learn them and get comfortable with it. And 2on2 it's easier than 4on4 for a team to get together and practice.

I am willing to go up to 12 maps for 1on1. 12 maps 1on1 should solve the problem with 1on1 players wanting a large map pool and then we can satisfy the team players by not flooding them with too many maps.

Dirk are you willing to sacrifice a few maps from 2on2 and 4on4 and add some more to 1on1 that you proposed ?

Is there any problem with this :

1on1 - 12 maps
2on2 - 5 maps
4on4 - 3 maps

It looks like Dirk, Uncles, and myself are going to have the only say in this ?

Comments ?

I think your ideas are good but I think there should be a little more than just 3 maps for 3v3, but if thats what everyone agrees on, I am fine with that.

Ok, Thanks for replying Pun.

I think we can be flexible enough to allow 1 or 2 more maps to 4on4. But if we do I think that 3 of them have to be standard DMC maps, not custom.

NQR (nations quake rank) uses a 5 map pool for 4on4.

After Punishers proposal how about this :

1on1 - 12 maps
2on2 - 5 maps
4on4 - 5 maps - Only 2 custom maps allowed

We will work out how the maps are chosen for the match later - like the challenged team picks the 3 out of 5 to be played or in the case of 1on1 the challenged player picks 5 out of 12 to be played - something like that...

Something else for us to think about which really needs to be done....

We need to start a Competition League that players and teams can sign up for. We can have 3 divisions : 1on1, 2on2, 3on3/4on4

To play in ladders / tourneys / matches players must sign up in this league. All the rules and map pools will apply to all players in the league. This is to insure that all players that play DMC competitively will adhere to the rules that are set in the league.

The league should have a small website and a space to sign up in each division. And a link that shows all rules and the map pool allowed.

Just some ideas.....(I have plenty more Wink )

yeah everything sounds great trend - i like having a nice variaty(not too big though) of 12 maps for duel... 5 maps for 2v2/3v3/4v4 sounds good too (3-5 maps for 5v5? haha like that would ever happen)
