________________________________________
Now that they dropped the price from $10 to $5, I was wondering if its worth getting this. I have a few questons:
1. How many people play?
2. Is it better or worse than original quake?
3. How many maps are there?
4. Is the community good?
5. Is it complicated or confusing?

Posts: 57 1. How many people play?
a handful.
2. Is it better or worse than original quake?
the only thing that makes it good is DMQ binaries and Adminmod.
3. How many maps are there?
A ♥♥♥♥load. Use Google.
4. Is the community good?
It used to be, but now it is entirely poplulated by no-skills, fail♥♥♥♥, jerk offs, and forum trolls. dmc-central was the haunt for people that loved the game... but it got CANCER and is now just a bunch of BAWWW, rage, and rant, not worth going to for information, but probably a good source for downloads. Quite honestly, the game is just nonsense now, most servers run Quad damage put in with Stripper2 at every corner and the ones that run DMQ pure aren't fun because there are a bunch of homosexual pollacks team playing in FFA and pretty much taking the fun out of it. It's become un-fun and isn't worth playing. All the developers and mappers have given up entirely (I personally have wasted hours of my time making maps for it) because there is no support from the community and a majority of the people that play it are total a-holes.
5. Is it complicated or confusing?
Not really. You'll need to do some work with your config file to get things to work right if you get the DMQ binaries. Most servers either use DMQ or DMC-Pro. Any server that runs vanilla DMC isn't worth playing on.
OK. Having said all this, to be quite honest you're better off getting Quake and just playing QW. It's got a TON of great players, although the learning curve has a lot higher of a standard. With some searches @ Quakeworld.nu you can get 24 bit textures and every bit of eye candy or lack of it you need (if you're into fullbrights).
There are usually about 20 or so DMC servers, most of them are filled with bots and noobs. I guess it's just a matter of if your $5 is worth about a weekend of meh before you get bored with it. The 10 or so hardcore players that still are in the game rarely play, so your chance for a good game is nil.
