What is HLTV?
HLTV is a standalone program that allows you to connect directly to a Half-Life game server and either record "special" demos of the game or allows you to stream a match live over the internet. The HLTV demo's are special because they allow you to watch the demo back from anyone's point of view, which makes it extremely useful for catching cheats or learning tactics.
Advantages:
During playback of HLTV demos, you can switch between different perspectives/views and players.
Only one recording in HLTV is needed for all players since you can switch to any player in the demo thus saving hard drive space and multiple demos from different players.
Disadvantages:
Voices are usually not recorded.
How to record:
HLTV spectators:
If the map changes, you need to record again at the start of the next map. The recording automatically stops at the end of a map (It is good practise to stop recording before map change to prevent demo corruptions).
1. Join an HLTV proxy server.
2. Go into the console and type:
record filename
Where filename is any name you want to give the demo file
for example: record clanmatch1
.dem is automatically added at the end of the filename clanmatch1.
Check the dmc directory.
3. Done.
How to stop recording:
1. Go into the console and type:
stop
2. Done
How to play:
1. Unzip the demos (.dem files) to the dmc directory.
2. Download and install Geekplay to easily view the demos.
Read the readme.txt in the Geekplay zip file for instructions on how to install and use properly.
3. Done

Duck button - Toggle spectator menu on the bottom.
How to stop playing
