Sorry if this has been covered before. Now that I have my nice new ping I've been playing on hookmod alot more
What is the chance of removing hook damage? IMO it just encorages the lamers to hook players. If there was no damage at least you would have half a chance of killing the lamer. |

To be honest we have been talking about doing away with the hook altogether.
When the hookmod server was introduced it was the first server to run the mod, now a few years on several other servers also have the hook enabled. Its not different anymore. Plus for me the novelty has worn off because in nearly every game I play there is one of two player hanging in the sky or some dark corner just taking cheap shots at the other players.
Shall we just do away with the hook and replace it with the quad instead?
(drop enabled quad) |

looool
hook smells and the noise gets on your nerves and it stops new players learning to move properly.
a dropquad would be fun to fight for tho as long as it didnt empty the server.

Which version of hook are you running?
The one that runs as a metamod plugin made by Drunken F00l or the default hook that comes with pro mod.
Reason I ask and I am sure you know this but the one made by Drunken F00l has two cvars that you can use to stop players hooking sky and other players.
DF_hook_players
DF_hook_sky
I was just thinking if you are running the default one that comes with pro mod you could disable it in the ffa.cfg then run the metamod plugin one made by Drunken F00l and set the two cvars to 0. |

the hookmod server came into being because when we tested it on the master the community went up in arms.so another server was born.
as most of our players still prefer pure dm,the servers simply run it,s course.

Hook and low grav are the only 2 mods i've never played.
I bound a key to hook when hook was first released, tried it once, hated it and never used it again. On the rare occasions i've played hook since then, I choose to simply not use the hook, it slows down my movement with the exception of having no RL.
I was kinda dissapointed with it when it first came out, At the time I was looking forward to it but I found it to be kinda ganky and scrubby, not very smooth. |

| We started out with Drunken F00l's metamod plugin soon after it was born and hook sky was disabled back then. We then moved onto the dmc pro hook because in theory it should have a lower load on the dmc server... whether it actually does I don't know because never really tested it. |

the only hook i've ever found in the hl engine that wasn't like that was Oz Deathmatch. it was very smooth and quick (like on Qauke2 lithium servers). there's a lot of settings to Drunkenfool's hookmod you can change though... maybe it just needs some tweaking a bit.
personally, i like the quad drop code, but i'm really not very fond of quad-damage at all... but if the hook was changed a little so people couldn't hang in the sky and hook other people with it, it might be a bit more enjoyable. just my .02....
Logan experimented with the hook falloff to keep people from hanging in the sky on Extreme for a bit... it was working pretty good, but i don't have the settings he was using. i think it was like 2 seconds falloff or something.
the best things about the BaF Hookmod server for me are the map rotation and the sweet ping.... any changes you make to the server i will probably still play there just based on that
btw Tayste, you should try Low-Grav sometime. it's fun! |

Yeah get rid of the hook I love playing with drop quad - but I think it would need a slow respawn time to stop players leaving. I know that some players are very good at running certain items (YA, RA, MH and quad) so if 1 good player got the quad every 60 seconds then I think the server would empty. |

| The hook that is at thors server doesnt hurt you when someone latches on to you. The only thing worse than hook kills is quad kills. 200h and A and one rocket kills you sucks so bad. When a decent player gets the timing down and constatnly gets it its really aggervating |

A quad drop server would be nice for a little variety...
Yeah mfrx - you have to keep an eye on those mad quad-addicts
I myself of course personally wouldn't know anything about that *ahem*

Man, I'll be sad to see it go. But do what you gotta do, I've been working on my bhopping and other skills, so hopefully I'll be able to keep up in the other servers. Well, I do keep up, just not as well |
